I am assistant professor in economic evaluation and the distribution of health care at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. I have had an appointment at the institute for Medical Technology Assessment (iMTA) of Erasmus MC since 1997. My main interests are in the measurement of individual and social preferences for informing health care decision-making. This includes both preferences for the quality of life in different health states and preferences regarding equity in the distribution of health. In 2005 I have finished my dissertation on the subject of the integration of equity concerns into the framework of economic evaluations: ‘Equity and efficiency in health care priority setting. How to get the balance right?’ I teach in the areas of economic evaluation, quality of life research, and reimbursement policies.
